Under the leadership of Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Police Gulabrao Pol, a community marriage was held at the premises of Navi Mumbai Commissionerate office. Present to give their blessings to the newly wed couples were Home Minister R R Patil and Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. On Sunday, the Navi Mumbai police Commissionerate did not adorn the usual look of its police officials on guards but was decorated. The day was special for the department as under the headship of Navi Mumbai Commissioner of Gulabrao Pol, a community marriage for the daughters and sons of police officers and constables and police officers themselves was held at the premises of the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate. Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol along with his officers were dressed as the “Barathis” with the dias set for conducting marriages of bridegroom and brides from different religion and castes. Present to shower their blessings on the newly wed couples were Home Minister R R Patil and Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. Also present were MLA Sandeep Naik and Mayor Sagar Naik. Community marriages are a low budget marriage which provides assistance and support to families who look to get their children married but face financial difficulties. Speaking to the media, Home Minister R R Patil commended the efforts of the department and said that community marriages eliminated the dowry system and had a secular view with people of different castes and religion getting married here. At the same time, he said that special facilities will be looked into for people having an inter caste marriage. Navi Mumbai CP Gulabrao Pol shared the initiative behind organizing this community marriage. Police officials and their bride also spoke to the media about how they felt.
