HOSPITAL OPERATES IN COMMUNITY CENTRE – IS THIS ANOTHER CONSPIRACY TO CONVERT PUBLIC PROPERTY TO COMMERCIAL PREMISES

khargar-community-2While developing the city, CIDCO constructed many hospitals, municipal schools and community centre to provide amenities to the people. Unfortunately, however, the one and only community centre developed at Kharghar has been rented out by CIDCO to a hospital leaving the residents bereft of any place for social activities. During the time of developing the city, CIDCO had also developed many hospitals and schools for the convenience of the locals. However, unfortunately, the one and only community centre developed at Kharghar that was constructed in 1992 is being run for a private hospital that includes OT, XRay, laboratory, out patient, in patient and a dental department. Sources reveal that, 8 years back, CIDCO had rented out the community centre to Nimisha hospital for a five years lease. After the time period ended, CIDCO extended its agreement with the hospital till 2009. One can see a big hall and also a stage inside the centre but the hospital has reduced the spaces with construction inside the centre. The residents if Kharghar have no place to conduct their social or cultural activities. Eight years back CIDCO had 5 acres of land to the owner of Nimisha Medical Centre Trust, Prakash Mhatre at a very nominal rate and in till the time the trust constructed its hospital, CIDCO had leased out the community centre to the trust. It has been eight years now but a hospital is yet to be constructed on this plot. The price of the land has now rocketed to approx Rs 200 crore and the locals now fear that the land would be gobbled up by some private builder. Prakash Mhatre owner of the medical trust admitted that CIDCO themselves wanted to open a hospital in the community centre. When he was asked about the allegations regarding him selling the plots, he clarified that he had sent proposals for the same to CIDCO. It is quite a shame for CIDCO as they have not just rented out a property of public service to a private party but has also not seen to it that atleast the development of the hospital would begin.
