ILLEGAL HOARDINGS: HIGH COURT FINES TMC CHIEF, THREE OFFICERS

tmc-hording-1The Mumbai High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on Thane Municipal Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre and three other officers over their failure to check illegal hoardings in the city. A division bench of Mumbai High Court has asked the Thane Municipal Corporation to take action against illegal hoardings within two weeks. The court had ordered that no hoardings should be allowed on roads and pavements. The court was hearing a public interest litigation against unauthorized hoardings. According to Thane Municipal Corporation officials, they had removed over 6,000 hoardings in the past one year. When the court asked the TMC about two hoardings that had come up on public roads and a pavement commissioner in his affidavit said that there was no specific order of the court to remove them. This infuriated the court who said that it was the duty of the civic authorities to take action against illegal hoardings. It was then that the Mumbai High Court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on Thane Municipal Commissioner Nandkumar Jantre and three other officers over their failure to check illegal hoardings in the city.
