Rahul Dravid who will always be remembered for his outstanding cricket abilities, who had earned a nickname of being ‘The Wall’ since no baller on the international level was capable of penetrating through his defense, declared his retirement from the game.
Rahul Dravid is a name that will always be remembered for his splendid cricket career, his ability to play through intense period of the matches, for scoring 13288 runs placing himself to the second position to Sachin Tendulkar, for always maintaining and carrying the role of being a good batsman, a good baler, a good fielder, would never protest for any position or placing allotted to him. He also became the captain for the team and guided India to victory against countries like England and West Indies. But unfortunately his career suffered a downfall when under his captaincy India lost in the World Cup 2007 in the first round itself. And after that there were also arguments among the selectors based on the fact that the team requires a player who is capable of giving a bang- bang performance rather than just saving the wicket, hence losing his place in the list of international cricket.
Although Rahul Dravid has announced his retirement but his fans and lovers would never let his name be forgotten in the history of remarkable players and the proof can be seen when anybody enters the M. A. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. To the left of the stadium entrance is a huge wall with the silhouette of the batsman in action with words that sparkles beautifully in daylight saying ‘commitment’ ‘consistency’ and ‘class’ and inscribed at the bottom is ‘A Tribute to Rahul Dravid’ Now Rahul Dravid will be soon seen at the Commentary Box and will also guide the youngsters steps for success.
