After Nasik, APMC, Navi Mumbai becomes the second stop where an irradiation treatment plant for mangoes is being set up. Merchants are excited and vouch that they will see better figure in exports. The king of fruits mangoes will definitely seek hike in its exports with the set up of the Irradiation treatment plant at Vashi’s APMC market. The company setting up the plant has sent a proposal to the ministry of Agriculture which has forwarded the same to United States dept of Agriculture’s Animal & Plant Health Dept. At present India is exporting mangoes to Middle east countries, Canada, Germany, UK, Hongkong, Bangkok, Japan & Singapore. For the first time in 18 years, mangoes were exported to the US last year following the quarantine treatment from Nasik. Chief executive of BRIT – the company executing the project A K Kohli informed that they have upgraded their infrastructure to meet the standards & their inspectors are expected to visit soon for inspecting of the plant. The APMC merchants are confident that the plant will reap better results in exports.
