general-body-2The NMMC general body approved several proposals placed by the Municipal Administration in a single proposal at the general body meeting this week with the Congress corporators staging a token walk out protest. Let’s take a quick look with this report. The proposal mooted the creation of senior posts of additional, joint and deputy Municipal commissioners to cope with the increasing load of work, to improve work and work capacity and to ensure uniformity and efficiency. The same proposal mooted the appointment of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sanjay Pattiwar as additional Municipal commissioner and deputy tax assessor and collector Prakash Kulkarni and Municipal Secretary Chandrakant Deokar as joint commissioners from the open category. The proposal further mooted the amendment of the corporation’s service rules, incorporating the posts of deputy commissioner, municipal secretary and deputy tax assessor and collector in the same grade. The proposal also mooted the appointment of 4 drivers in the permanent employment of the corporation to fill vacancies in the schedule caste category. Congress’s Namdeo Bhagat questioned the purpose of bringing so many proposals as one proposal and clubbing the appointment of joint commissioner and drivers in the same proposal. Others pointed out why the proposals were brought as urgent matters. Namdeo Bhagat also demanded to know why only 4 drivers were appointed when the backlog was more and drivers were short-listed too .He questioned the merit list of drivers who appeared for the test conducted by NMMC was displayed. Commissioner Madhukar Kokate replied that the administration has decided to henceforth bring all appointment proposals in a single proposal unless the general body decides otherwise. Failing to elicit satisfactory replies, the Congress corporators staged a protest walk out and the other corporators approved the proposal unanimously without any discussion on the same. With so many senior officials being elevated to different types of Commissioners, along with increase in perks – it is hope that the administration will become more efficient in reality than just on paper.
