ITS’ SHOCKING BUT TRUE – NMMC’S CHEF FIRE OFFICER ACCEPTS THAT FIRE CRACKERS STALLS ARE IN COMPLETE VIOLATIONS OF NORMS BUT SAYS IS HELPLESS TO TAKE ACTION

crackers-2Most of the firecracker stalls erected across the city are violating safety norms and rather than taking action on these stalls, Navi Mumbai fire brigade officer is found tossing the blame on their head office and senior officials in NMMC. There are around 100s of firecracker stalls erected across the Palm Beach Road in Vashi. And not surprisingly many of these stalls are violating the safety norms that are set by the Navi Mumbai fire brigade. Fire Officials have visited these stalls and found that most of them are not following the necessary guidelines and lack the safety equipments required like water bucket, fire extinguisher and sand. We spoke with the Chief Fire Officer, Vinay Rane who stated that notices would be issued against these stalls and their license would be cancelled. When we asked about these stalls being freely erected right under high tension wires, which is an open violation of the fire brigade guidelines, he was seen tossing the blame on NMMC saying that they could only issue guidelines, the final permission is given by NMMC. The officer sounded quite helpless in the matter as when the senior officials at NMMC themselves fail to check on this violation, what could he do. It is rather shocking that the Chief Fire Officer of NMMC is aware of and is openly accepting the violations Vijay Rane and not taking any action to check the violations. This proves how ineffective the city administration is when it comes under political pressure. It may be recalled that sources informed NMTV News that due to the pressure of the ruling NCP party the fire crackers stalls were erected on Palm Beach Road despite the administration knowing of the dangers the present location poses to the city and citizens.
