The residents of JN1 Type apartments at sector 9 of Vashi live in fear with the recent fire break out in one of the gold jewellery shops at the ground floor of their building. Like this one shop, there are many other goldsmith shops gracing the buildings and carrying out their business since several years. They have been melting gold and polish work, which requires highly inflammable and hazardous chemicals. These chemicals are released through chimney as the smell in unbearable and even though residents have been complaining there seems to be no answer to their problems. Residents complain that with air pollution there is also noise pollution, which goes on all through the night. Even goldsmiths say that the smell of the chemical is bad for health.
