The slum dwellers of Kalwa East are worried and there is reason for this. A recent survey has revealed that slums settlements are built on government land which means that at any point bull dozers can be run over their houses. The residents have stated that they have been living on this land for the last 10-15 years. They even have electricity bills, tax receipts and voting cards. When they bought the houses they were not aware of the owner of the land. But only after the order of Mumbai High Court was passed sis they know that the land they were living on belonged to the tribals or adivasis, MIDC, Maharashtra government and Mophatlal Company. After the Mumbai High Court order, a survey was done which revealed that these houses were built on government land. Residents, however allege that a survey was also held by the administration in 2003 after which 17 houses were declared illegal and razed down. While the residents thought this was the end of it, the recent survey has once again worried them. With cameraperson Ravi Nikam, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
