Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal recently announced that the government of India’s MET dept. will soon be able to predict any sort of natural disaster. Does the Minister believe that they can conquer nature – well that’s what he thinks. This is Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal boasting about how they government of India’s MET dept. is going to get a makeover with the latest technology and expertise. According to Kapil Sibal, their technology will be able to predict tsunamis, earth quakes and floods – something that he reiterated after the inaugural ceremony of the 9th International Science Festival. When we asked him if he meant that with technology man will be able to conquer nature – this is what he had to say. Experts beg to differ with the Minister stating that no matter how intelligent the human brain is, it can never conquer nature. Clearly what Kapil Sibal fails to understand is that whatever be the technology or how much ever intelligent the human brain is, it can never win against brutal fury of nature. The tsunami in India, hurricanes in America and floods in Bihar, Orissa and Assam should be a lesson – else we too will learn the deadly hazard of playing with nature the hard way.
