KHARGHAR RESIDENTS WANT TO GO UNDER NMMC

kharghar-3The debates and discussions have started again – Who gets Kharghar – NMMC or Panvel Municipal Council. Even as each one is influencing CIDCO and the state urban development department with all their might, Archana Tripathi traveled to Kharghar to speak to the residents what they want. This is perhaps the most dreamy and well developed node of Navi Mumbai. Most credit for how Kharghar has shaped up goes to former CIDCO Managing Director Anil Kumar Lakhina. His passion translated Kharghar into an educational and cultural capital of sorts. During the initial years of its development, former CIDCO Managing Director Anil Kumar Lakhina had shared his plans exclusively with NMTV News. The mountains that line the node enhanced its picturesque beauty. CIDCO gave more wonders to the node in form of the two most popular chowks of Navi Mumbai today – the Utsav Chowk and Shilp chowk. After all these years, Kharghar still has the distinction of having the best of schools, colleges and identity of a beautifully planned node. But with time, several civic problems began to infest the node. Today there is an urgent need for an active civic corporation to come into the picture. And for all that is Kharghar, both NMMC and Panvel Municipal Council are up against each other trying with all their might to so that CIDCO and the state urban development take a decision in their favor. Sources reveal that debates and discussions are underway and very soon a decision will be taken in a joint meeting of all the concerned government offices at Mantralaya. Meanwhile, we traveled to Kharghar to get a first hand report on what residents want and the unanimous choice was NMMC. Residents have their reason for choosing NMMC over Panvel Municipal Council. With the elite majority of residential population at Kharghar, there is no doubt that NMMC or Panvel Municipal Council would want this high tax paying node to come under their jurisdiction but the ball is in the urban development dept’s court. Till then residents can just hope for the best. From Kharghar, Archana Tripathi for NMTV News
