All political parties, non-governmental organization, and parents took out a morcha on private schools for fee hike in Kharghar. MLA Prashant Thakur, party workers, and parents were arrested for agitating without permission. However, Congress MLA Prashant Thakur’s protests seems to be a political stunt as his own party is ruling at the State and Centre. All political parties, non-governmental organizations, and parents of school going students took a morcha on 13 private schools located at Kharghar. This gathering of people alleged schools for being exorbitant while charging the fees. Parents expressed their grief over the steep rise in fee. The political parties included members from the Congress, NCP, BJP, Shiv Sena and MNS. The party members has warned of an agitation and acted accordingly. Strict police security could be seen during which the police also arrested MLA Prashant Thakur along with 36 parents and different party workers. They were arrested for ‘Agitation without permission’ and for ‘deterring students from going to school’, although they were soon released since the offences were bailable. MLA Prashant Thakur alleged that private institutes were being unfair and claimed that parents and political parties will not stop until fees were regulated. BJP Raigad District Chairman also spoke on their protest. The protest carried out was unusual as along with the opposition, Congress MLA Prashant Thakur was leading the agitation. Moreover, sources inform that since he too is an educational baron with many institutes, he should have implemented this policy in his own institutes first rather than hampering the education of private schools in Kharghar.
