World Asthma Day is a day of opportunity to help put asthma on the political and social agenda. It’s a chance to educate people about asthma, to increase awareness and to raise funds to help find a cure. This year’s theme is “You Can Control Your Asthma”. Asthma is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world, affecting more than 300 million people worldwide. It is characterised by recurrent breathing problems and symptoms such as breathlessness, wheezing, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma symptoms vary over time, and also from individual to individual. City doctor Mangala Attarde says that an asthma episode is brought on by an allergy to something in the environment. These substances are called allergens. She stated that one of the important factors is to be aware that one has asthma and accept it. She further added that one of the main myths of asthma is that it is a life threatening disease. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
