kokan-5CIDCO along with the Konkan Division and District Rural Progress Cell has organized an exhibition titled “Konkan Saras” at Urban Haat. Monika Bhosale reports on the inauguration ceremony of the exhibition. The grand “Konkan Saras” exhibition that is underway at CIDCO’s Urban Haat at CBD Belapur will culminate on December 7. The exhibition is a joint effort of the Center and the State Govt being conducted under the scheme popularly known as “Suvarna Jayanthi Self Employment Scheme”. This is the first time that an exhibition has been organized under this scheme in Navi Mumbai. The exhibition was inaugurated at the hands of CIDCO Managing Director G S Gill and is being conducted under the supervision of Konkan Divisional Commissioner S S Sandhu. Other prominent officers present during the inauguration ceremony included H K Jawle of the Thane Zillah Parishad and Vishwas Bhosale of Raigad Zillah Parishad. Presently there are 8200 saving groups in Thane and 26000 in Raigad. The aim of these savings group is to focus on over-all and uniform progress of the community. The aim of the state government is to better the financial conditions of the economically weak and those living below poverty line. For the same, an allocation of Rs. 1.25 Crore at Zillah Parishad level and 25 lakh at district level has been made. The Konkan Divisional Commissioner S S Sandhu gave an insight to the media on exhibition. The officer also gave an insight on the training given to women savings groups in rural areas. He also gave an insight on their future plans for the savings groups. CIDCO Managing Director G S Gill on the other hand praised the success the state was getting in these initiatives and also had a word of advice for those participating in the exhibition. He added that there is a lot of demand of rural handicrafts and items abroad and CIDCO will give all the needed support to the Konkan Office in this regard. Konkan Divisional Commissioner S S Sandhu and CIDCO MD G S Gill took a tour of all the stalls at the exhibition, studied the displays and encouraged the participants.
