The coronavirus pandemic has forced people to stay home after many countries have ordered national lockdowns. Amidst this quarantine period, the Oscar winning singer and actress, Lady Gaga is teaming up with the WHO (World health Organization) and the Global Citizen to conduct a global virtual concert called One World Together at Home on April 18th.
The event will feature many stars with the likes of Billie Eilish, Chris Martin, John Legend, and Elton John. The WHO’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said there is a need of an all-of-society approach with everyone playing their part, which also includes people from the entertainment industry. The event will be streaming at ABC,NBC, CBS and other international broadcasters.
Lady Gaga has raised $35 million in over a week for the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response fund. Lady Gaga stated that she hopes that the virtual concert will celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit. While announcing the information of the concert, Lady Gaga showered praises on the healthcare workers who stand on the frontlines and fight against the catastrophic coronavirus pandemic. Lady Gaga stated that the event is not meant to be a fundraiser but a celebration for the act of kindness shown by the healthcare workers. Lady Gaga extended her prayers to the sick and the people who lost their jobs due to the crisis brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
