Anxiety, apprehensions, nervousness, confidence and rush – that’s how one can define the emotions that ruled all ward offices of the city on the final day of nominations. While many expected that things could get messy considering that nominations were overflowing on the last day, NMMC Election Team ensured that the day was well coordinated and smooth across the city. Some chose to keep the nomination filing a simple affair while others arrived with huge crowd of supporters. The drums were beating and fire crackers bursting as the confident candidates arrived in style to make an impact. NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata who went around all ward offices to check the proceedings of the day voiced confidence that all would be done smoothly by his team. With the alliance between NCP and Congress called off one day prior to last day for filing nominations, candidates from both the parties made a beeline to ward offices. While NCP is heading strongly is majority of the wards, its only in the wards where sitting Congress corporators are contesting that one will see close fight between the NCP and Congress. As the clock struck three, the first step for candidates aspiring to becoming corporators was taken. Except for those who withdraw their nominations, the official race to win the battle in NMMC Elections 2010 has begun. With bureau inputs, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
