Maharashtra DGP Praveen Dixit orders Filing of chargesheet in molestation cases within 24 hours

Maharashtra director general of police Praveen Dixit on Tuesday said chargesheet in molestation cases should be filed within 24 hours of registering the FIR . But he allowed a delay of day or two if statements or technical verifications were required. Dixit, who is in Nashik for Wednesday’s passing out parade ceremony of Maharashtra Police Academy cadets, said the move is aimed at treating crime against women seriously.

He added that the police are making the best use of technology to address people’s grievances. “Vahanchori, an app for registering motor vehicle theft launched a fortnight ago, has evoked a good response. We got 450 complaints from across the state and traced 350 vehicles.”
