MAIDS TAKE TO STREET TO PROTEST FAILURE OF IMPLEMENTATION OF THEIR BILL

mahila-kamgar-4On women’s day, various organizations took to the streets for the demand of their rights. Vasudha Dhumak reports. Though today its 100th celebration of International Women’s Day but still many women are deprived of their rights in 21st Century. Domestic maids are one of them. In 2008, former Labor Minister, Ganesh Naik had tabled bill for domestic maids, which was passed as well. He had proposed Rs. 200 crores for Provident Fund, Pension, Insurance and scholarship (for children of domestic workers). But yet this rule is not implemented, which is why these workers did demonstration on Azad Maidan. Comrade Hemant Gosavi raised his finger on the inefficiency of the administration. He suggested that children of domestic workers should be availed with higher education as well. Savitri Bai Phoole Gharlu Kamgar Sanghatna’s Vice President, Prematai Nair too raised her voice.
