MANGROVES SYSTEMATIC BEING DESTROYED TO PAVE WAY FOR PLOTS ON PALM BEACH ROAD

mangroves-road-5Travel into the lane from the Moraj Signal at Palm Beach Road and any concerned Navi Mumbaikar will be in for a shock. A road intentionally destroying mangroves has been from the signal here, through the dense stretch of mangroves in the shape of a necklace ending at the Full Stop Mall on Palm Beach Road. That means a stretch from Vashi to Nerul. The modus operandi has been the same – to cut off the water of the creek from reaching mangroves. The same method that CIDCO had allegedly adopted right from the start i.e. during the making of the NRI Complex and even the Palm Beach Road. May be this is one of the reasons why the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest lashed CIDCO for not getting their approvals in constructing them. While NMMC has put up boards threatening action if mangroves are destroyed by anyone, the destruction of mangroves underneath the board cannot be done without support of authorities, allege sources. While action has been initiated builders after CIDCO sold them land on mangrove land and the Crores that buyers have put in these projects are at stake, such blatant cases of gross violation of all High Court orders and CRZ norms are overlooked. And if the intention is not prime land grab then what is the need for a road in the midst of thick mangroves cover where as if today one can only spot drug addicts. At CIDCO, the Chief Engineer C S Sanghvi informed that the road is not being made by them and at NMMC, the City Engineer was not in office and the junior engineers refused to speak in the matter without the advice of CE Mohan Dagaonkar. The most unfortunate aspect remains that these gross violations are taking place in the constituency of State Environment Minister Ganesh Naik
