While Mumbai city is run chaotic with the Marathi manoos issue by the Shiv Sena and MNS party, Marathi schools are on the verge of closure. The country’s biggest Municipal Corporation has shut down 26 Marathi schools last year. And now, about 35 MCGM’s Marathi Primary Schools are on the verge of shutting down. Shiv Sena led MCGM has been seeing a lot of students from Marathi medium schools dropping out. With the number of students decreasing, 26 Marathi schools were closed down last year. And now in the 2010-11 budget presented by MCGM, there is no budget mentioned for MCGM’s 35 Marathi primary schools resulting to the possibilities of its closure. Hence a special meet of the Education Committee was held to discuss this grave issue. In this meet, all the members of Education Committee were present and they together demanded a budget of Rs. 5.25 Crore from MCGM to save these schools from getting closed. MCGM’s Education Committee Chairman Dr. Ram Barot gave more details about the situation and said that, if Central Government and MCGM will not approve the proposed budget by the education committee then these 35 Marathi primary Schools will have to shut down. He also said that, if these schools will be closed then the students studying here will have to shift to private schools where they will have to pay excess amount of fees.
