The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has made elaborate arrangements for immersion of Ganesh idols on the occasion of ”Anant Chaturthi”. Over 37000 MCGM officials and workers will go out on roads to ensure a smooth Ganpati Visarjan in Mumbai. MCGM has planned ”Ganapati visarjan” at 82 places across the city. The Corporation has arranged 65 motor-boats, five hundred life guards, six thousand volunteers, 65 first aid stations, 65 ambulances and fifteen mobile toilets. Till the 9th of September, 1, 34, 207 Ganesh idols have been immersed, which is 12,000 more than last year’s figure. For the immersion of small idols, the corporation has made arrangement for 25 artificial lakes across the city. In order to ensure that immersion of big idols is done without hassles, 392 steel plates have been arranged at main locations along with 40 generators. On the other hand the traffic police have made elaborate arrangements for the festival with control rooms at five places – Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Chowpatty, Bandra, Juhu Chowpatty and Ganesh Ghat at Powai. In addition to that, watch towers have been erected at 37 places for regulating road traffic and processions carrying Ganpati idols. Traffic curbs have been imposed on several roads for September 7, 8, 9 and 14 while twenty four roads have been closed for traffic and 46 roads have been made one-way. Ashok Jagtap, NMTV News.
