For the first time, liver transplant facility will be available at a civic hospital. MCGM’s KEM hospital will soon have this facility, which will be available to the people by the end of this year. Speaking during the weekly press conference of MCGM, the dean of KEM hospital Dr. Sanjay Oak informed about the liver transplant facility. He stated that in a private hospital, a liver transplant costs nearly Rs 25 lakhs, which is not affordable by the masses. Liver infections are a deadly disease and must be immediately cured. Thus MCGM has started this facility for its poor patients where the cost incurred for the operation would be Rs 7 lakhs. Dr. Sanjay Oak further informed that a specialized doctor, technician, a nurse with a total team of 30 will be specified for this kind of operation. In the beginning, specialized doctors from Delhi will be called in for operations. Apart from them, 30 doctors of KEM hospital had already been sent to Delhi for training.
