During the MCGM Standing Committee meet, member Yogesh Sagar has demanded to ban the slaughtering of animals which are exported from the Deonar Slaughter house. It maybe recalled that the soaring prices of edibles had forced Chief Minster Ashok Chavan to stay the MCGM’s decision to hike slaughter charges at the city’s biggest abattoir. In Deonar, it was feared the proposal to increase charges by over 50% would directly affect the costs of poultry and meat. Most of the processed meat from the abattoir is exported to West Asia and earns the civic body a revenue of about Rs 3 crore annually. But the MCGM has been running the facility at an overall loss of Rs 6 crore. The idea to increase abattoir charges was cooked up to meet the losses. Several corporators had stated that Chavan’s decision was not logical as the facility required a revamp. MCGM Standing Committee member Yogesh Sagar has demanded that the slaughtering of animals to export should be stopped. With cameraperson Raju Sharma, Hansraj Kanaujia for NMTV News.
