Looking at the failure of the police department to maintain peace in the city during the attacks of MNS workers on north Indians, a PIL was filed by Maharashtra State Human Rights led by social worker Megha Patkar. A PIL was filed by social worker Megha Patkar due to the failure of the police department in maintaining peace in the city as well as arresting MNS leader Raj Thackarey at the onset of the riots. The attack by the MNS workers not only was an attack on the north Indians residing in the city but there was also a loss of Rs 6 lakhs of public property. Social worker Medha Pathkar stated that the police department failed to take action against Raj Thackarey at the onset of the riots itself. She has demanded that action should be taken against Raj Thackarey under CRP Section 149. The next hearing of the PIL is scheduled for March 25 where Medha Patkar herself would be present in court.
