MEDICAL SERVICE BY DOCTORS SHOULD BE MADE MANDATORY IN RURAL AREAS – ADVOCATES HEALTH MINISTER VIMALA MUNDRA

d-y-patil-1Speaking during the 75th annual day of Medical Council of India, Health Minister Vimal Tai Mundra stated that a law should come into effect making it mandatory for doctors to provide medical services in rural areas, where the need if the most. On the occasion of the 75th annual day of Medical Council of India a grand ceremony was held at D Y Patil Medical College in Nerul where Health Minister Vimal Tai Mundra was also present. During the function, the minister spoke on the huge variation of medical services provided in city and in rural areas. Expressing concern over this variation, he informed that the state was soon going to come out with a law to make it mandatory for doctors to provide services in rural areas. He further added that a law should also be taken out against the attacks on doctors. Speaking on the plots given to private institutions and trusts on a cheap rate by the government, he said that such hospitals should give 15% of the beds to the poor section of the society and those who do not do so, action should be taken against them. However, he went defensive on the issue of malnutrition and child infanticide that the state faces. Present along with the Heath Minister was the President of D Y Patil University, Dr. D Y Patil, his son Vijay Patil and many members of the Medical Council of India.
