Geeta Chanda was just 3 years of age when she won All India Music Competition. At 62, Geeta Chanda is a known classical music enthusiast. Love for music knows no age ! That’s what comes to the mind first when you meet 62 years old Geeta Chanda who belongs to a family of classical music lovers. Perhaps it was the music in her blood that got Geeta an award in an “All India Music Competition” when she was just 3 years of age – the same time when she started learning classical music from her mother. At the age of 6, Geeta won All India Music Competition in 1954 at Kolkota and went on to win the prestigious “All India Radio Music Competitions”. For Geeta, classical music is her God, which she shares with people of all age group today. Aspiring classical singers who learn classical music from Geeta says that they want her blessings to pursue classical music as a career. Even though she never received any government support to promote classical music, she did everything she could on her own. Even after the death of her husband, she continued to pursue teaching classical music with the same passion. Even today Geeta remembers her gurus who taught her the A B C of classical music. Despite the struggles, NMTV salutes the spirit of Geeta Chanda for promoting classical music – that is an integral part of India’s rich heritage.
