MEMBERS DEMAND ENQUIRY INTO UNPRECEDENTED DEMOLITION OF DILAPIDATED JN TYPE BUILDINGS AT NMMC STANDING COMMITTEE MEET

standing-comm-5The tower controversy reached the Standing Committee meet where heated debates and discussions on the subject were seen. In last week’s NMMC Standing Committee meet, in a calling attention motion Prakash Mate raised objection to the unchecked demolition of dilapidated JN Type buildings with no permission from planning authorities CIDCO and NMMC. He said that given JN Type apartment owners a lure of 1.8 FSI, private developers are demolishing dilapidated JN type buildings without NMMC NOC or CC. He said that residents who were opposing it are being threatened. And this is being done at the blessings of a few political leaders. Independent Corporator Shivram Patil and Sena Corporator Vithal More joined the arguments stating that since the on going demolition spree for erecting towers is being supported by politicians, the NMMC administration is being managed by the builders. Finally, the much needed discussions on the pressure the new towers would have on the present infrastructure as too discussed and concern voiced. They demanded that the administration immediately study the legal aspects. Ramakant Mhatre pointed that there is a High Court order to stall demolition of all dilapidated CIDCO buildings till the case filed by Janhit Manch is not completed heard and a verdict passed on it. But the said order is being violated by fooling the public and bribing authorities. Standing Committee Chairman too strong cognizance of the matter and has asked the administration to immediately report on the allegations being made by corporators and if the demolition being done is illegal, to book the builders and officials responsible for this.
