Mhada has decided to build one lakh affordable homes by implementing the Slum rehabilitation Authority scheme. With little land availability for creating housing stock, MHADA has decided to build one lakh affordable homes under the SRA scheme. Out of these one lakh homes, 50,000 flats will go for providing rehabilitation to slum-dwellers while the other 50,000 flats will be for LIG and MIG groups. Around 120 parcels of land have been identified around the city for the construction and schemes have already been sent to SRA for sanction. Usually in a SRA scheme, a builder is appointed to construct flats for the slum dwellers in which the builder gets higher FSI of 2.5 and is also allowed to claim the balance in the form of Transfer of Development Rights. With MHADA taking up this decision, the extra FSI would be used to built flats for LIG and MIG groups and is likely to ruffle features of builders who were eyeing these 120 plots.
