MLA Sandeep Naik took a stock of civic issues at Digha. He visited ward no 3, 4 and 5 and has give diktats to officials for several civic issues that haunt this ward.
If there are any wards that need immediate redressal of civic issues in the cit then ward 3, 4 and 5 in Digha perhaps top the list. With the basic area of the ward being slums known by the name of Ambedkar Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Vishnu Nagar, Subhash Nagar and Ilton Pada, these wards face some of the most burning civic issues. These include that being surrounded by hills, the water enters the slum area, the Thane Belapur road runs parallel to these slums and there is creek on one side where hazardous industrial chemical waste is dumped. To top it all the railway lines, run through this area that urgently requires culverts. During his visit on foot in these areas, the MLA witnessed these issues and was briefed further on these by the locals. He said that there is an urgent need to construct culverts as excessive rain could create threat of flooding in the areas. He ordered the ward officer to prepare an estimate to begin this work.
On the other hand, ward no 3’s biggest issue pertains to the railway dam in the ward. There is a need to constrict a wall on one side said the MLA. Another common problem in all the wards is filth and garbage due to which the threat of diseases looms large on the health of citizens and the ill maintained toilets in the ward add to this. Voicing disappointment on the work being done by toilet contractors, MLA Sandeep Naik said that they have given 15 days time otherwise notices would be sent to the contractors.
The MLA’s visit to all the wards concluded with a meeting of corporators, NMMC officials and citizens at the Digha ward office. The MLA is expected to revisit the area to inspect the work conducted by NMMC after his diktats. With cameraperson Arvind Mane, Nilofar Shaikh for NMTV News.
