The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is pushing hard to ensure that four of the detailed project reports of the Metro rail are submitted by early June. The project reports submitted by the consultants-STUP, SPAN and Consulting Engineering Services -will then be discussed by MMRDA experts after which the modified papers will be sent to the state urban development department for approval. Public hearings for objections and suggestions will be held before a final stamp is given to the project. According to MMRDA officials, nine Metro routes will be built, of which work on the first phase of the project-Versova to Andheri to Ghatkopar-is already underway. Work on the second line from Charkop to Bandra to Mankhurd and third one from Colaba to Bandra are expected to begin shortly. Bureau report – NMTV News.
