MMRDA’S SKYWALK PROPOSALS STUMBLE ON GROUND REALITIES

sky-walkOpposition to construction of skywalks does not seem to stop at Mulund and Kurla. While protests by the locals have forced the MMRDA to stop work in those areas, residents and shopkeepers of Kurla are planning to write letters to the prime minister, and the corporator of Santa Cruz (west) has lodged a complaint against the contractor of the skywalk for breaking sewerage lines during piling. It maybe recalled that the residents and shopkeepers in Kurla (west) had protested the construction of a skywalk and demanded that instead of the skywalk the foot over bridge of the Kurla station should be repaired first. Not sitting mute, the residents have now written a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The residents have complained that the skywalk would merely create nuisance to the general public. Bureau report NMTV
