The drama of the Abu Asim Azmi – MNS face off continued on the third day of the assembly sessions in Vidhan Bhavan. The MNS and Shiv Sena-BJP came on a united front demanding Abu Asim Azmi’s arrest for his comments on Bal Thackeray. The speaker ordered an inquiry against Azmi. Members of MNS and Shiv Sena-BJP created noisy scene in the Maharashtra Assembly on the third day, demanding the arrest of SP MLA Abu Asim Azmi over his “behaviour” on the opening day of the session and his subsequent remarks against Sena chief Bal Thackeray. Soon after the House commenced proceedings, MNS members shouted slogans demanding Azmi’s arrest. They alleged that Azmi had made threatening gestures while he was taking oath on Monday. Sena-BJP members also joined in, demanding Azmi’s arrest for his “derogatory” comments against Bal Thackeray. The House was adjourned for 10 minutes amid noisy scenes. Later an inquiry was ordered into the “behaviour” of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi in the Maharashtra Assembly and its premises. Protem speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh made the announcement following the repeated demands by Opposition members. Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse said that Azmi’s misbehaviour in the House should be taken into consideration and action taken against him. The protem speaker Ganpatrao Deshmukh said the Government would also probe the allegation by the Opposition parties that Azmi was inciting people outside the House. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said the Government would not condone behaviour that was unbecoming of any member and which would malign the image of the House, within and outside and action would be taken against that member. The House was adjourned three times on the third day.
