MPS BAT FOR NAVI MUMBAI AIRPORT AT CHIEF MINISTER ASHOK CHAVAN’S MEET

nm-airport-2Most members of parliament at an all-party MP meet convened by the state government backed the Navi Mumbai airport project and the power projects that are stuck because of opposition from the local residents. MPs came out in full support of the Navi Mumbai Intl Airport at the Chief Minister’s meeting. They also voiced support for power plants stating that unjustified local opposition was the hurdle in these projects. NCP Chief Sharad Pawar reiterated his stand that the opposition was creating unnecessary hurdles in the development of the state. Members from the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party demanded reasonable compensation for the local people during the land acquisition procedure, in response. The state government pleaded with the MPs to pursue state-related issues with the central government, and bat for the maximum funding for developmental works in the state. Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told MPs that the state government gets nearly Rs. 14, 000 Crore every year from the central government, but this amount is not sufficient when taking the burden of the infrastructure needs of the state into consideration. The Chief Minister requested the MPs to follow up these issues rigorously at the centre.
