Mumbai Congress alleges ‘tampering’ of the city’s voter list

The Mumbai Congress Committee has contacted the Election Commission (EC) to complain about alleged ‘tampering’ of the city’s voter list. A delegation led by city Congress chief, Sanjay Nirupam, said there was a planned attempt targeting the exclusion of voters, who are likely to vote against the current government from the list. He alleged that the plan seeks to deny nearly 20 lakh voters of their voting rights.

“As per our information, almost 20 lakh voters’ names are being deleted from the list in Mum-bai suburban area. So we want them to declare the list of those people whose names have been deleted. The collector said that he will give us a draft roll, which is the final list after deletion,” said Mr Nirupam.

Congress alleged that the EC’s inadequate machinery and hum-an resource has increased the chanc-es of defaults in the list. They also raised the issue of citizens being sent to transitional camps in other parts due to redevelopment projects.
