MUMBAI GUARDIAN MINISTER JAYANT PATIL MOOTS RELAXING SILENT ZONE NORMS FOR GANESH UTSAV

jayent-patil-Mumbai’s Guardian Minister Jayant Patil said the government was considering relaxing silence zone restrictions around schools and colleges. In view of the upcoming Ganeshotsav, Ganesh mandals in the city have demanded that noise restrictions around schools and colleges be relaxed after working hours. In this regard, Mumbai’s Guardian Minister Jayant Patil met with a committee of Ganesh mandals, officials of the MCGM and the home department. Following the meeting, Jayant Patil said he had asked the administration to make necessary changes in the existing rules and issue a notification. Activists claimed that the move to relax silence zone norms was against a Supreme Court ruling. They say that the state government had approached the Bombay High Court and then the Supreme Court five years ago with the same proposal. It was turned down by both. There are 2,237 silence zones and 2,837 Ganesh mandals in the island city. The committee said almost all mandals come under silence zones. Bureau report – NMTV News.
