Last week, Mayor Dr Shubha Raul was elected unopposed as the vice-president of City Net Organisation (CNO), which has 124 Asian cities as members. With this, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation can seek free consultancy and information about new projects of the member cities, as also funding for BMC projects. It is a matter of great pride for Mumbai as Mayor Dr. Shubha Raul has been elected as the Vice President of City Net Organisation. The elections were at Yokohama, Japan, with the Mayor of Yokohama elected president of City Net Organisation. They have been elected for a term of five years. Under this, the Mayor will approach other cities, such as Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune and Nasik to be members of CNO to avail of various benefits, as they have a separate corpus to fund infrastructure development in cities. Of course, Mayor Raul’s main thrust will be the city’s environment conservation, which has been closest to her heart. So, for starters, she plans to take up ecofriendly projects such as eco-tank and safety water tank to reduce pollution.
