Mumbai museum to celebrate International Museum Day on wheels

The 95-year-old and biggest museum in Mumbai, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), will celebrate a ‘day out’ on wheels to mark International Museum Day on Thursday. The Citi-CSMVS Museum on Wheel will be out in the city, parked at key locations for people to walk in and see the exhibition. 18th May is recognised as ‘International Museum Day’ worldwide by the International Council of Museums.

Among the places where the Museum on Wheels will be parked are Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Girgaon Chowpatty and High Street Phoenix, to draw the attention of a range of city public. The bus will be parked for few hours for people to see the exhibition.

The day is an occasion to raise awareness on how important museums are in the development of society. The theme this year is ‘Arts of the World’. Through this programme we aim to create an understanding of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange and to engage the masses in an enriching learning experience.

Apart from the Museum on Wheels city tour, the museum will also be seen hosting a range of free activities like Hibori Tye and Dye, Islamic Tile Making, Khokhloma, Egyptian Jewellery Making, Torma Making, Make Your Own Miniature Painting, Trade Route Quiz, Storytelling Sessions! Warli artist Ramesh Hengadi will be at the museum to present a demonstration of the Warli mural painting, while teaching visitors how to make their own Warli paintings.
