saptrang-2On account of the Golden jubilee of the formation of Maharashtra state, a series of programmes have been organized with the joint effort of Government of Maharashtra and Bank of Maharashtra. The event is named as Mumbai Saptarang 2010. One of the programmes held as a part of this majestic celebration was the photography exhibition named “Rediscovering Maharashtra” at the art gallery of PL Deshpande Maharashtra Academy where photos were displayed on the three cultural pillars of Maharashtra, namely, Wari, Kusti and Lavni. Wari is a procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram, in which Maharashtrains all over the state participate and carry out the procession to Pandharpur, the home of lord Vitthal. While Kusti is the traditional Maharashtrain form of wrestling and lavni is the traditional dance form. Some of the finest collections of the photographer Shirish Shete were displayed in this exhibition. We also spoke to visitors of the exhibition who said that it was a treat to their eyes as they saw all the traditional flavors of Maharashtra in one place.
