The annual festival of the Kareli community was held in the Muttappan temple situated at the hills of Belapur. Hundreds from this community as well as social workers was present on the day. On the day of the annual festival, hundreds of devotees visited the Muttappan temple to mark the annual celebrations of the Kareli community and seek blessings from their god. Muttappan goes down in history as the God of the poor. Though Sree Muthappan is worshiped as a single deity, it actually represents an integrated or unified form of two Gods, namely Vishnu (with a fish-shaped crown) and Shiva (with a crescent-shaped crown. The annual fest was organized by the Navi Mumbai Muttappan Sangh, belapur where a special programme was held. We spoke to one of the temple’s management committee member to know more.
