There are a lot of speculations in political corridors on how much is the fact that the Shiv Sena-BJP candidate this time is from Navi Mumbai going to affect the prospects of Shiv Sena winning from the Thane constituency. Confident of a victory, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde says that till now Navi Mumbai stood up for Thane, now Thane would pay back to Navi Mumbai. Thane city is the stronghold of the Shiv Sena. After all, the popular saying that “Thane is Shiv Sena’s and Shiv Sena is Thane’s” isn’t said just like that. This has been one of the main reasons the saffron alliance has won the last four parliamentary elections from Thane constituency. From 1996 to 2004 – late Sena leader Prakash Paranjpe had won four consecutive parliamentary elections. Not to forget that his son Anand Paranjpe won the May 2008 by polls after Prakash Paranjpe’s death. However, breaking its tradition this time, the Shiv Sena overlooked candidates in Thane to choose Vijay Chougule who is a resident of Navi Mumbai. Since the Shiv Sena has taken this decision, there have been many speculations whether Thaneites would vote for a Shiv Sena BJP candidate who is not a resident of Thane and Navi Mumbai. Many analysts have gone to the extent of stating that this would cause a dent in the Shiv Sena vote bank. However, Thane Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde who is in charge of Thane and Kalyan constituencies rubbishes all such speculations. Sounding confident of a victory, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde says that till now saffron alliance voters of Navi Mumbai voted for a Thane resident MP, now it is the turn of Thane to pay back. Well, looks like the test for Thane to pay back Navi Mumbai has begun. Bureau report – NMTV News.
