The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation kicked off the Fire Safety Week by way of a demonstration held at Vashi Fire Brigade. The demonstrations consisted of presentations on various topics of fire safety. The Fire Safety week came into existence when in the year 1944, a major fire occurred in a ship carrying bombs and cotton. In this accident, 66 firemen of MCGM lost their lives. Paying tribute to these fire fighters, the city observes Fire Safety Week every year. The lack of public awareness is a major reason causing huge losses to human life and national property. The fire safety week aims at stimulating ideas among all sections of the society to draw a line of action for effective handling of fire emergencies and management of disasters. Present during the event was NMMC DMC Jagannath Sinnarkar along with NMMC Fire Officers. Speaking on the new addition to the NMMC Fire Brigade, the Bronto Skylift, DMC Sinnakar said that these equipments had strengthen the functioning of the department. He added that the corporation had sent notices to nearly 500 societies violating fire safety norms. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
