Better late than never. That’s what comes to the mind when we see the Navi Mumbai Traffic Dept. getting on its toes after the CKT School Bus Fire tragedy that injured 22 children out of the 35 children in the bus. ACP Traffic Srikant Dhiwre first cleared the air on the tragedy and said that it the responsibility of a community that includes parents, schools management and government organizations to ensure that such accidents do not take place. He said that for this, they are soon going to organize a meeting at the level of the Commissioner of Police. ACP Dhivre clarified that schools buses are issued fitness certificates by RTO and hence they have written a letter to the Regional Transport Office to conduct a survey of fitness of school buses and send the traffic police a report on it so that they can initiate action. The Traffic Police is going to conduct a special drive from August 24th to September 19. Under the drive the entire transportation of schools will come under scrutiny and strict action will be taken against violators. The ACP appealed to parents to study Supreme Court guidelines on school transportation for the safety and security of their own children. With cameraperson Roshan Hate, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
