NCP SUPREMO SHARAD PAWAR AND REVENUE MINISTER NARAYAN RANE GRIPPED IN A LEGAL TANGLE OVER REALTY SCAM

Sharad-pawer-2In a major setback for NCP President and Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, the Mumbai high court has directed to look seriously into the PIL filed alleging that illegal allotment of plots to him and his relatives. The Mumbai High Court has remarked that the PIL filed by Baramati resident Shyamsundar Potare, challenging arbitrary allotment of plots to him and his kin, were serious and had to be taken cognisance of. The issue concerns the allotment of plots measuring between 3 acres and 13 hectares in Pune district in 2005 which were earlier acquired by the Krishna Valley Development Corporation (KVDC). Potare claimed in his petition that KVDC allotted two plots measuring 1.4 hectares and 13.1 hectares to the Vidya Pratishthan, an educational trust whose chairman was Pawar, in 2005. KVDC also allotted land to Pawar’s relatives, including 2.1 hectares to the Anant Smriti Pratishthan (managed by Pawar’s nephew and state irrigation minister Ajit Pawar); 13 hectares to Lavasa Corporation (belonging to Pawar’s son-in-law Sadanand Sule); 1 hectare to Shivajinagar Agriculture College and 3 acres to Sharadchandrji Scout and Guide Training Centre. The petitioner contended that KVDC had no power to allot or lease out these properties reserved for developing irrigation projects. The court had also directed KVDC to furnish records of all land acquisitions and allotments made since 1996. This is not the first time that Sharad pawar has been engulfed in a land controversy. It may be recalled that it was alleged that the Union Agriculture Minister had illegally dereserved a large number of plots in Mumbai as Maharashtra chief minister. BUREAU REPORT – NMTV
