In an unfortunate incident, a newborn baby’s arm was amputated due to the negligence of doctors at Mata Vaishnavi hospital at Kopri. The joy of the Sawant family shattered when the doctors at Mata Vaishnavi hospital at Kopri amputated the baby’s arm claiming it had developed deep vein thrombosis. Kavita Sawant delivered a boy about a month prematurely on November 30. The baby was admitted to the neonatal ICU. Kavita said that when she saw the baby, a syringe was injected in his arm which caused the infection. The injection was removed the next day but the baby started to have an infection on his arm and was immediately taken for operation. After the operation, the hand had turned from grey to black after which the doctors had to finally amputate the hand. The Sawant family is accusing the gynecologist Dr. Mahesh Gosavi and Bharati Gosavi for negligence. However, Dr. Gosavi refuted the allegations and said that the pediatricians were monitoring the baby round-the-clock. The Sawant family has filed a complaint against Dr. Mahesh Gosavi.
