The residents of Sector 50, Nerul took out a morcha to protest the de-reservation of a plot meant for school in their area for construction of a mosque. CIDCO has allotted a plot number being 144 to “Islamic Welfare Association” for a mosque. In the year 2007 when the Home Ministry had asked the Navi Mumbai Police to give a report on the allotment, former DCP Amar Jadhav had sent a letter voicing concerns over the allotment. The plot has a 30 meters road running along it and malls and business center are going to be constructed in the vicinity soon. Having realized that the NMMC is yet to give permission to construct the mosque, the NGO put a shed on the plot and began fencing and so locals took out a morcha to NMMC protesting the same. The President of the NGO allotted the plot however termed the protest as politically motivated. The protesting residents met DMC in-charge of Encroachment Thakur who immediately ordered his ward officers to take action. The NMMC officials then took action at the site and seized all construction equipments and material. The Navi Mumbai Police has been stationed at the site to ensure that no law and order problem took place. With cameraperson Roshan Hate, Monika Bhosale for NMTV News.
