The residents of Nerul are soon going to have a multi-purpose hall where they can carry out their social and recreational activities. Local corporator Santosh Shetty had proposed the construction of a multi-purpose hall replacing the old community centre, plans of which are underway. There was a community centre in Nerul that was built by CIDCO. However, over the years, the community centre had deteriorated and was in a very dilapidated state. Community centres being a significant part in a society usually houses social events and is used for the general public for their recreational purpose. However, the community centre at Nerul was built many years ago by CIDCO and being in a pathetic condition did not serve its purpose. Hence, the local corporator Santosh Shetty approached CIDCO and NMMC so that NMMC could take over the maintenance of this community centre. Following several requests by the local corporator, finally CIDCO handed over this community centre to NMMC. The community centre has been demolished and will be replaced by a state-of-the-art multipurpose hall. A plan was chalked out for the redevelopment of this centre. According to plans, the community centre would be converted into a multi-purpose hall which will be used for educational and social purpose. The plans also include the inclusion of a nearby plot that belongs MSEDC. While still in the discussion stage, the local corporator has proposed to shift the work of MSEDC behind the new multi purpose hall, cost of which would be covered by NMMC. The multipurpose hall will be very spacious with 2 big halls, 10 rooms and provision for school events. The multi-purpose hall will be of 7 floors. The expenditure estimated for the entire project is Rs 6 crores. Presently, for the first phase, Rs 3.5 crores has been approved. The contract has been awarded to Mahavir Constructions.
