mmrda-2In a smart move, the MMRDA has outsourced the construction of uniformly designed bus shelters all across the city and in return, has got an assured income of Rs 50 crore by selling advertising rights. So far, some 85 bus stops out of a total of 220 across Mumbai have got the new look and work is on for the rest. The MMRDA has leased out space required for the bus stops and the contracts to build and maintain them to two bidders. The cost of constructing the shelters and maintaining them will be the bidders’ responsibility for the next 10 years. After that, they will hand over the shelters to the MMRDA. The stylish bus stops are made up of stainless steel with a polycarbonate roofing and illumination for the shelter as well as advertisements displayed on them.
