NEW SYSTEM FOR ATTENDANCE AGAIN PLANNED FOR MANTRALAYA BUT IS THE STATE SERIOUS?

attendence-1Employees in Mantralaya who have earned notoriety for reporting late to work and leave early may no longer be able to do so. The Mantralaya bosses are installing a biometric attendance system to track the assistance of the employees. The system will be operational from May 11. It will keep a check on employees who allegedly hand over their I-cards to colleagues for swiping, a press release stated. The demand for biometric attendance system was first made by social worker Anna Hazare in a meeting with the then chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. However, IAS officers in the general administration department had opposed it. Hazare had again raised the demand with CM Ashok Chavan and he had assured him that the system will be started. The biometric attendance system will be implemented by the Mantralaya’s information and technology department. The process of taking fingerprints of all Mantralaya employees is underway, the release said. However, the talks and plans of attendance system in Mantralaya to check the lethargy and poor performance of employees has been going on for a long time and it remains to be seen how serious the state is to make employees in Mantralaya accountable.
