NMMC commissioner Vijay Nahata admitted that incidence of robbery of municipal property is increasing on a large scale and a proposal for appointment of security personnel to check the same will soon be placed before the Standing Committee. During the recent NMMC General Body meet, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata assured that a proposal for appointment of security personnel to check the incidences of robbery of civic property would be tabled at the Standing Committee meet. He was replying to questions raised by Sudhakar Sonavane, Aparna Gavtea and Rohini Bhoir about lack of required cleaning and security staff in NMMC Urban Health Centres resulting in robbery of computers, cash and other items from the centres. The members raised these issues before unanimously approving the amended cost of rupees 2.15 crores for developing hospital management system for health services in the corporation, computerization of the Urban Health Centres and registration method for births and deaths. The NMMC General body approved an estimated expenditure of rupees 1.89 crores for the same in July 2008 and the Standing Committee approved the tender of Amruta Technologies for rupees 2.15 crores in December 2008 without general body’s approval for the increased amount, which was however approved by the general body in July 2009. bureau report NMTV News.
