Recently, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik had addressed the media in Navi Mumbai over the confusion of newly issued property tax receipts by NMMC. We spoke to NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata to know more about the source from where new property tax receipts were issued. It was a new survey conducted by NMMC following which residents of a few nodes were issued property taxes much higher than what they were paying for all these years. The issue had led to many raising fingers about the Guardian Minister’s promise to not increase taxes for twenty years being broken by NMMC. It was after this that Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik met media persons in the presence of NMMC Commissioner, officers and general public. Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik clearly informed that increased property tax receipts have been sent to residents who have made extensions or consumed FSI. These household will have to pay property taxes on the present rateable value. And Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik stated that this is why there is difference between property tax paid earlier and the one they will have to pay now. When NMTV News met Commissioner Vijay Nahata he sited the example of Mumbai to specify the difference. He said that because they do not want to burden tax payers of the LIG group, a new proposal to spare them would be brought to NMMC General Body.
